Kimmie 9/12/00
KIMMIE: I'd like to start out with a little bit of personal information: Married? Children? Other musicians in the family?
BOBBY: I am single. No children. My brother plays guitar in a blues band in New Jersey.
KIMMIE: When did you first start playing the drums and what got you turned on to them?
BOBBY: I started playing drums when I was eight years old. My father played jazz records all day which inspired me to begin playing.
KIMMIE: Now the big question on all the Warrant fan's minds is: "What has Bobby Borg been doing since he left Warrant?"
BOBBY: I fought in an international kickboxing tournament (and won third place) in Long Beach, CA. I have been going to UCLA and writing The Musician's Handbook. Staying healthy, reading, and forming a lot of great friendships.
KIMMIE: Tell us a little about The Musician's Handbook?
BOBBY: Most musicians are inspired to play based on MTV and other media related hype. It is important to understand the realities.
KIMMIE: What inspired you to write the book?
BOBBY: The book needed to be written. So many musicians have written songs that are released on records and do not even know the difference between a record royalty and a mechanical royalty. That is just one example.
KIMMIE: Obviously the business side of the music industry is very cut throat. Was there any one instance that you were involved in or witness that caused you to take a step back and say "Whoa, this is bad, someone needs to educate other musicians on the business side of music"?
BOBBY: Besides the example I gave to your previous question, I know cases where musicians will perform live with a band unbeknownst that the group is recording a live recording for release. Off course the musician earns nothing for this live recording.
KIMMIE: I wasn't aware until checking out your website that you had written 6 instructional books. Tell us a little bit about those.
BOBBY: The books are very practical drum instruction books that I have written over the years. Anyone that wants specific info should e mail me at bborg@earthlink.net
KIMMIE: Do you have any plans in the future for other books?
BOBBY: Just to finish the Musician's Handbook.
KIMMIE: What about music-wise? Any plans to get out playing again?
BOBBY: I only wish to perform with people that I truly like and respect as human beings and who truly like and respect me.
KIMMIE: Okay, since this is for a Warrant site, I have to ask some Warrant related questions now if you don't mind. First, what was it like playing with them?
BOBBY: The Warrant fans were always very cool to me. For that reason it was especially great.
KIMMIE: What sticks out in your mind as the most memorable tour moment with the band?
BOBBY: Performing in N.J when my whole family hung out behind my drum set during the show.
KIMMIE: What did you like most about touring?
BOBBY: The long tour bus rides and philosophies of Jani Lane. Ha ha!
KIMMIE: What did you like least about touring?
BOBBY: The long tour bus rides and philosophies of Jani Lane.
KIMMIE: I know that each time Warrant has been in search of a new drummer, the buzz on the net seemed to be "Bring back Bobby". What do you think about that?
BOBBY: I think that Warrant was a fun live band. I am happy that the fans accepted me as one of the party and actually want me back.
KIMMIE: What was the response of the fans, towards you, while you were out touring with Warrant?
BOBBY: Again, The warrant fans are the best. I still receive tons of mail via my web site bobbyborg.com.
KIMMIE: What is your favorite Warrant song?
BOBBY: "Letter To A Friend" and "Falling Down." The chorus to "Letter To a Friend" was stuck in my head for months. Rick helped me develop it and Jani added his magic touch. Jerry and I created a cool verse rhythm and the song just came together. Falling Down is cool because I love the sensitivities-I always admired Stewart Copeland of The Police and was able to show-off his influences on my playing.
KIMMIE: What was your favorite Warrant song to play?
BOBBY: Cherry Pie with the inclusion of my tasteless double bass licks. I hoped that two negatives may make a positive. (lol.)
KIMMIE: You've played a lot of different types of music from "heavy/alternative" to "Rap/Punk" to "Progressive" to "Rock" and "Jazz/Rock", what is your favorite type of music to play?
BOBBY: Everything; as long as it conveys soul and is fun to play.
KIMMIE: What do you consider the hardest type of music to play?
BOBBY: REAL QUIET MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KIMMIE: Is there anything that you haven't achieved that you would like to? For instance, playing straight jazz (if you haven't already)?
BOBBY: I have never been in that magical situation where everyone just clicks musically and loves each other as brothers. In that case, I could play any style of music and be in heaven.
KIMMIE: What do you see in the future for Bobby Borg?
BOBBY: Lots of very cool people in my life.
KIMMIE: Okay, I think that's it. Is there anything I've left out, anything else that you would like to add?
BOBBY: Thank you very much for the privilege of this interview. Kimmie you are a goddess.
